This is basically just a continuation of the first Narrative project. Same unit, different stories.

Lyrical Essay

I wrote a lyrical essay in the style of Claudia Rankine’s Citizen. For this project, we were told to write a lyrical essay on a social identity that was different from us. Thus, I decided to write mine on conservatives, as it was an identity I only knew for its stigma. Below is an accompanying image I created myself with the use of stock images.

Social and Civic Responsibility Research Paper

This is my research paper on racial humor and its effects (both positive and negative) on racial identities. This doesn’t exactly fit under the Narrative unit, but I wasn’t sure where else to put this. I suppose you could say that this research paper is a narrative of the human race?

Action Reaction Scene

It all started with a character (lovingly provided to us by our animation teacher). For this assignment, we were required to pick one of the models available to us and have that character react to an object of our choosing. Once we had our character and object, we were required to write a backstory for this character and create a narrative based on it. Before I show you my narrative, I am first going to introduce my character to you. Meet: Harold.

Personality Walk Cycle

This is the backstory I had written for him:

Harold is a meek, kind, gentle, clumsy, soft boy. He is blood type AB, is a Virgo, and got a Bachelor’s in Economics from Duke University. He is a proud accountant who enjoys bird watching. His favorite bird is the California condor, but his co-workers give him so much shit for it. In fact, he’s pretty much the office doormat.
He’s a fragile teacup stuck in a frat house. His co-workers keep calling him “skeleton man”, “bird fucker” and “malnourished virgin”, even though he has a family of five… His boss is annoyed by him, even though Harold’s the best employee in the office. He, however, is slow to anger. He just takes everything in and moves on with his life. After 5 years at the same office, you have no choice but to ignore these insults. Besides, his wife and kids are a big comfort to him, which is probably the only reason why he’s still in his job and hasn’t tried putting his head in the baler.

And now, what you all have been waiting for (oh who am I kidding, no one is going to read this): my narrative film.

Freedom Project

Digital Media’s Freedom Project is just what the title suggests: freedom. We were essentially allowed to do whatever we wanted with this project. Thus, I decided to team up with Maria Haggart and Loren Chun to create this video for our animation teacher’s baby, Sofia.
