Narrative Visual Perspective in Digital Media

In Digital Media we completed two funny image compositions. We could use any images, and we were encouraged to use our creativity. My first image is a visual representation of the famous saying, “It’s raining cats and dogs.” This assignment was to practice our Photoshop skills for our Surreal Composition Project.

Funny Image Composition 2

The Surreal Composition Project was designed as an introduction to the world-building unit. The goal is to create an image that is “otherworldly” but creatively combines pictures using blend modes and textures. My world-building project has fantastical elements along with strong color palettes. This can be seen in my surreal composition seen below.

Title: Out of this World

I was inspired to make a world similar to ours but focused on changing colors and adding creative elements. I learned how to better edit color in Photoshop, and broaden my world-building skills. I will use Photoshop in the future to blend images and create new projects.

Multi-Layered Art Project

The multi-layered art project was based on our world-building project. We created a story based on a made-up world and made Illustrator art to be printed into a 3D display. We could make ring art, a light box, or stacked wood art. I decided to make a light box. We started with rough sketches to upload into Illustrator.

Behind the Scenes

After uploading my rough sketch, I drew each layer into Illustrator. I decided which layers would be further back versus in front of the box varying visibility.

Final Product

Once my design was completed and my box was built, I took my Illustrator file and made a version in color. I then edited the layers in After Effects to create a 3D look.

I also created a video of my assembly process.

Title: A Day by the Sea

I enjoyed producing a 2D multi-layered concept into a 3D physical production and 3D digital production in After Effects. Seeing my Illustrator design come to life, and learning how to build this project was a great experience. In After Effects, I produced a 3D production using z-axis, lights, shadows, and virtual cameras. This is a skill I will take with me to future projects.
