Documentary

The Documentary unit is something that I deeply value and was very interested in. I loved the idea that I could choose to create a film about something I was passionate about and wanted to learn more of. Due to COVID-19, I wasn’t able to follow my original idea and ended up making a film from home. In this film, I interviewed my mom and brother, and went deeper in the subject of having to work and live at home most of the time. Even though it wasn’t what I expected, I still learned a lot about the art of Documentaries. I was able to strengthen my skills with the equipment, especially because I didn’t have anyone around to help me set everything up. I think that this unit truly made me more independent with filmmaking and allowed me to use my creativity to create something I was proud of.

Mockumentary

To practice before we started filming our real documentary, we created a Mockumentary as an exercise. We practiced using the correct angles while interviewing someone, while making sure that the light hit the subject’s face correctly. We also practiced adding B-roll effectively to add to the interview.

Documentary Film

Creating this film was definitely different due to the unusual circumstances created by COVID-19 and shelter-in-place. Originally, I was going to create a Documentary interviewing people that worked at Broadway San Jose. However, that wasn’t able to happen and I instead made a film about how my family has adjusted to these new circumstances after COVID-19 entered our country.
