Explorations Project

For the exploration project, we explored our passions and worked to improve on something we weren’t entirely familiar with.

I like working with clay, but I don’t get to as often as I’d like. So I decided to make a clay sculpture of something. I didn’t know what to do at first, but then I remembered a few sketches I did in the past.

So I decided to base the sculpture off of that. I thought it would be a little tricky, but it was easier than I expected. It wasn’t completely easy, but easier than I thought. I definitely had some challenges, like the nose bing constantly squished, having to redo the ears, and the eyeball falling off. There was also challenges with coloring/painting. I was originally going to paint it with acrylic paint, but I learned from earlier projects that acrylics doesn’t dry well on polymer clay. So I used some metallic powder. at first, I thought it was working, but it wasn’t getting the color I wanted. So I wiped off as much as I could and colored it with alcohol markers. That definitely got the color I was aiming for. I finished coloring, and the sculpture was completed!

Music Recording

When I first heard about this project, I told my sister about it, and that she could play the guitar for me, and she was very excited. I chose to do a cover of Rises The Moon by Liana Flores, because I can’t write music. I told my sister, and she started playing it, and then decided she didn’t want to do it. So now I’m having my dad play the guitar while I sing it.

Lyrical Essay

I wrote my lyrical essay about my past diary entrees from 2017-19. I wrote them down exactly how they were in the diary and added footnotes whenever I had something to say about what I wrote down or how I wrote it. Here it is if you would like to read it. I also thought about how memories work. A lot of these diary entrees, I don’t remember happening. There are a few small details I remember, but for the most part, those memories are harder to reach.
