The prompt for this photo was a faceless self portrait so I was thinking of how to show who I am, but without a face. This made me think of ways to describe who I am in ways that I normally wouldn’t. Take who I am at the core and not just surface level. Pictured in this image is an unassuming math textbook with work being done in a notebook, it looks like a typical night of doing homework. On the table surrounding it is all of these items: scissors, a watercolor pallet, yarn, a jar of water with paintbrushes in it, and at the center of the paper being used for math homework is the start of a drawing. I used all of these images to depict my life. Of course I have to go to school, do these things like math homework, but who I am outside of school greatly contrasts that that someone is able to express at school. At the core am I not just an artist? You will never truly know someone in the context of school. A lot of people are so much more then what is defined by linear grades and test taking. It’s easy to forget that sometimes.
