Narrative 2

English

In English we had a world building unit. In this unit we work individually or in groups and create a world. The goal of the Worldbuilding unit to my understanding was to create a story. You are creating something from the ground up, this went from the world to our characters.  We had the opportunity to build what our world looked like and how it functioned. Not only that, we got to create characters who lived in these worlds. When creating a visual for the characters, I had to think through what physical characteristics fit them best. My partner and I had written down what each character looked like so I had to attempt to fit that description as best as possible. I grew over this project in writing having to create and write three acts for my story. My partner and I had to work together on what was happening in each act and how the characters were getting from point a to point b. I grew in reading because I learned how to analyze articles in order to gain information for my research paper.

Digital Media

In Digital Media, we worked on a project that was based on our worldbuilding unit in English. My piece is stacked wood capturing a significant moment in time of my story, The Final Battle. In my story a group of four spies go on a mission to take down an evil being who is causing ruckage throughout the world. After many hardships and losing a member of the team, the other three must learn how to work together to defeat the evil. The final battle where the three remaining spies are trying to defeat the evil being and his machine I feel is an important scene in the story and its outcome.

For this project my inspiration came from the worldbuilding unit in English. My partner and I created a world and its characters from scratch. Within the story there is a final battle that happens where three of the four lead spies battles the ancient evil and tries to take down his machine. I grew in this project by getting a better understanding of how Adobe Illustrator and Effects. Some struggles that I had during this project was fixing the Adobe Illustrator file so my project could print. There were so many small details that I had to go through and adjust so it was correct. Something that I would change if I were to do this project again would be to pick a different scene from my story that was just as significant as the scene I currently chose. I am most proud of this project because of how well it turned out on stacked wood. I was concerned that the pieces wouldn’t work together. I will use these skills I have learned in the future with any project that I may come across in my life after high school.

Film

1 Minute Movie

For the One Minute Movie my class and I got split into two groups. In those groups we created a story but only drew it on notecards. From there we switched those notecards with the other group. Once that was done we had to go out and film the story to the best of our ability.

1 Period Film

For the 1 Period Film my classmates and I split into groups. In those groups we had to write, film, and edit a movie in a single class period. It got stressful near the end of the period because of the little time we had left. Due to this time crunch we were unable to include audio.

Lighting Scavenger Hunt

In Film, as we were working on our Narratives we learned about lighting. We learned about the many different ways to get lighting and what lighting would be used at different times. Also, the different types of lights were available not only to us but in the industry. For the Lighting Scavenger Hunt we got put into groups and had a list of different types of lighting we had to do.

Dialogue Scene

Senior Narrative

The Senior Narrative is the biggest project in film. For this project I worked with Hector Chang and together we put together a short film called Stone Heart. In our film we focus on a character called Edward who tries to get with a girl he likes. But he needs help. He finds this help in a rock named Clint. Together they try to get with the girl but after many failed attempts Edward decides he doesn’t need Clint anymore and learns new information that changes what he thought he knew. Throughout filming Hector and I did have some struggles throughout the unit so the Shooting Schedule and Shot List does not match the script or when we actually filmed.

Written Reflection

Something that I value about the specific process of pre production in Film was getting everything organized. Through this we can understand what we need and get it done smoothly when it comes to production. My personal favorite part of the production was being on set. I enjoy hanging out with my peers but also create a movie that I am passionate about.
