Prescription Film

Film

In film we were challenged to create a narrative film, because I am a first year film student and I was working with another first year film student we did a hybrid of the senor narrative project and the junior narrative project.

Synopsis:

This synopsis is a rough outline of what we wanted our film to be. Throughout the project our idea for what we wanted the film to be changed and you can see the changes in the difference between this synopsis and our final product.

During dusk. A janitor is cleaning the office. Coughing the janitor takes a bottle out of his pocket with pills in it and takes some. It is the end of the work day and because he is well known around the office, he talks to says bye to everyone as they leave. Cut to him mopping the floor during the night. Shots of him cleaning in most of the rooms we will later be in to establish the space [Include security cam footage]. Starts cleaning the lobby. Hears a knock on the door. He looks over and sees a man standing there, staring in the office emotionless. He walks over to the door and points at clock. Man doesn’t move or do anything. Janitor looks around the office and sees a closed sign. He goes to grab the sign but when he comes back to show it to the man, he is gone. He is very weirded out and shivers as the puts the sign back down. Moves on from lobby and starts cleaning a room next to it. He can’t shake the bad feeling he got from seeing the man, so he walks back to the lobby to check again. The door is wide open. Janitor instantly freaks out looking all around him. Holds up his mop like a weapon. Slowly walks over to reception desk and picks up the phone. Phone is dead, dead line beeping. He decides that he is in danger and needs to leave now. He makes his way slowly to the exit and gets into his car. He starts driving out of the parking lot but as he pulls out of the driveway, he has a coughing fit. He has to stop and he starts searching for his pills. He realizes that he forgot his pills inside the office. He stares at the open road ahead of him and then back to the building where the pills are. Dramatic scene where he is very angry that he has to go back in. Eventually he U-turns and drives back into the parking lot, not taking the time to park in a spot. He runs back into the office and grabs his broom that he left at the door. He can’t remember where he would have left the pills, so he searches between the isles of cubicles looking for his pills but is being extra careful for fear that the crazy person will find him. He walks into the kitchen area, screwing off the top of the pill bottle, he hears footsteps coming toward him. He looks around and hides under the table. Crazy person walks over to the table near him and takes the pills will the crazy person is coming over. Worried that the crazy person might soon have an angle that could see him, he starts to back up. As he is backing up he knocks over a chair. The crazy man starts to walk over to the janitors table. As he gets close, janitor decides this is now or nothing. He jumps up and swings the broom at him. The broom makes contact and the man stumbles back. He continues swinging and the man tries to block the swings. On one swing the man grabs the broom and rips it out of his hand. He pushes the janitor back with it and he gets pushed into the kitchen counter. He looks next to him and sees a knife. He reaches over and grabs it. The man sees him holding the knife and starts to back up. He puts his hands up and starts bending down to put the broom on the ground. He reaches to grab a keycard out of his pocket but the janitor thinks it is a weapon. He lunges and stabs him. He falls to the ground clutching the stab wound. The janitor drops the knife and starts to walk to the exit. As he walks out of the frame the scene changes behind him. The crazy man becomes the coworker and the “weapon” becomes his key card. As he is walking out of the building, into his car and driving away, shots of security camera footage shows what really happened. The co worker came to get the wallet he left at work. As the janitor starts driving out of the parking lot, he chugs the rest of the pills, throws the bottle out of the car and drives away We see the pill bottle reading “Barbiturate may cause delusions”.

Story Board:

As part of our project we planned all of our shots from beginning to end using very rough sketches on note cards. Through this planning we got an image in our head of what we wanted the project to look like. Below is a picture of just a few of the note cards that we made while creating the story board.

Production Photos:

Here is a picture of us shooting a scene. The person holding slate is Nick Fletcher, who is a second year film student helping us shoot.

Here are some pictures of the editing process. To edit my partner and I used Adobe Premiere Pro, and for all the effects we used Adobe After Effects.

Prescription Trailer:

Along with our film we were assigned to create a short trailer to entice people to watch our film. Here is the trailer for Prescription.

Prescription Film:

This is the final production for our Narrative Unit our long ours spent rotoscoping and finding audio clips were finally complete.
