3D Character Pose

This is the completed version of my original untextured character made in Autodesk Maya. I used Zbrush to add details such as his eyes and pockets and Substance Painter to give him color and texture.

3D Weapon Modeling

For this project, we needed to make a weapon of our choice. I chose to model the baseball bat “Casey” from the videogame Enter the Gungeon. Like my character, this is simply a newer textured version of my weapon from the last unit.

3D Character Walk, Run, Jump Cycles

This was our first true 3D animation of our Senior year. We created some short, ~24 frame animations in Autodesk Maya of out character walking, running, and jumping and then used After Effects to create a continuous video.

3D Motion Capture

In this short project we used motion capture data (basically pre-made animations) to create a short animation in Maya. We also had to add a few simple camera positions and movements.

3D Lip Sync

In this project we had to make our character lip sync an audio clip of our choice. I chose a short clip I found on YouTube. We started by creating a set of different mouth shapes that represented the letters A, E, I, O, U, and M in Maya. We then used a plugin to combine them into a single model with a mouth that could smoothly form any of the 5 letters.

3D Action Reaction

For this project we used our knowledge of motion capture animation as well as keyframe animation (like the walk cycles) to create a short story of our character interacting with an environment in some way. I chose to primarily use keyframe animation as it was much easier to get the movements that I wanted.

Reflection

Doing 3D animation has been very fun so far. It is much more simple and easy than traditional 2D animation in my opinion. I think this may be partly due to the fact this unit was mostly building off of what had already created in the last unit. It was nice to move from doing modeling exclusively to doing actual animation. One of the biggest challenges that I faced was rendering. It took a very long time to create my action reaction animation because each scene took hours upon hours to render.
