Fill the frame

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is beautiful-forest-768x1024.jpg

While my friends and I were exploring Santa Cruz, we walked along this train track. I stopped to turn around and saw this couple trying to balance on the train tracks. I thought it was a really beautiful moment, especially with the scenery behind them. The trees and the train tracks fill the frame of this image. In this photo, the aperture is F1.6, shutter speed is 1/200, and ISO 40.

Friends and family

Last summer, I went to the United Kingdom not really knowing anyone at the start of the trip. Throughout the short trip, we formed a group that we would’ve least expected. In this photo we’re all showing off our matching necklaces that we bought together, while riding a ferry from Scotland to Ireland. Now that we’re back in the U.S., we all hang out when we can, with the exception of the highland cow stuffed animal named Moose. In this image, the aperture is F 2.8, and shutter speed is 1/500.

Reflections

California Trinity Alps

Over the summer, I went on a backpacking trip to a beautiful lake out in the Trinity Alps. As the sun was going down beyond the mountains, there was a beautiful glare and trees reflected nicely. This lake has very happy memories because we had a campfire and sang songs as the sun was setting. In this photo, the aperture is F 2.8, shutter speed is 1/100, and ISO 200.

Facial Symmetry

This is a photo of my classmate Owen. I reflected his face on photoshop. I copied the left side of his face and reflected it (left image), and copied the right side of his face and reflected it (right image). Then I put the three images side by side again using photoshop. In this image, the aperture is F 2.8, shutter speed is 1/32, and ISO 250.

Your Culture

In my culture, during Chinese New Year, the adults give the kids red envelopes filled with money. Red envelopes come in many different designs. This is a very special event in my culture, we have a big party and eat a ton of food. In this image, the aperture is F4, shutter speed is 1/50, and ISO 800.

Exit

Ollie’s first time out of the country!

My sister is currently studying for a semester abroad in Barcelona, Spain. While she’s having the time of her life, she misses her boyfriend a lot. He came over to our house early in the morning so we could drive him to the airport. He was beyond excited because he’s never been out of the country before. I captured this moment of him exiting out of our house, one of his last moments in the United States for a while! In this image, the aperture is F7.1, shutter speed is 1/100, and ISO 100.

Geometry

The gym I go to has a long hallway with a beautiful dome top where sunlight can come in. In the dome at the top of the image and the lights, doors, and hallway at the bottom of the image used geometry to build. Then to utilize empty space, they added a really sweet quote that everyone can read when they look up. Looking at this hallway does make me smile. In this image, the aperture is F5.6, shutter speed is 1/64, and ISO100.

Flowers

sweet autumn clematis

There is a street that I walk past often where there are rows of these flowers. They are so beautiful and they smell really good, it always makes me happy to see them. When I woke up today, these were the first flowers I saw that caught my eye. In this image, the aperture is F10, shutter speed is 1/195, and ISO100.

Tell A Lie

glass pieces of candy with seashells.
what flavor should I try first?

You may be tempted to open up those pieces of candy and take a bite out of them, but they are actually handmade colored glass shaped candies made in Venice, Italy. When we visited Venice, we went to a glass blowing store where we saw so many cute trinkets, my mom absolutely loved the candies the best. This photo is telling a lie because on the surface, it’s really easy to make fake things look real, but often times they use realistic fake props because they last longer. If these candies weren’t glass, they would’ve been eaten already. In this image, the aperture is 4.5, shutter speed is 1/50, and ISO 200.

Leading Lines

the pantry

For this weeks photoblog, we were told to show leading lines in food. Many foods they sell at the store come in rectangular boxes, so I put all of those together to just show horizontal and vertical lines instead of any curved or cylindrical lines. Also by seeing the outside of the pantry, you can kind of see the food inside as closed off. In this image, the shutter speed is 1/5, F4, and ISO is 1,600 because it was a very dark setting so I needed to change the camera settings to let a lot of light in.
