This project was arguably the most calming one as this is the main objective to mandala making.

Black and White Mandala Artist Statement

In this project, I grew both spiritually and logistically as I was figuring out how to manipulate a platform completely foreign to me, Adobe Illustrator, and adding a fragment of myself to it as well. Using Ukrainian folk tales for inspiration, I embarked on a frustrating, but fulfilling, journey attempting to collect the fragments in one mandala. I did it, and I’m proud that I did instead of giving up. Though it could be significantly better, at this moment it’s the best I can do – this mentality took me by surprise, since my usual perfectionistic tendencies wouldn’t let me live it down, and I’m honestly grateful for it. Next time, I’ll dive deeper into the scopes of Adobe Illustrator and use the tools in a smarter way to convey my thoughts in lines that’ll pop more; much like my peers, who’s masterpieces made me realize just how much more I could do.

Colored Mandala Artist Statement

 My colored mandala is inspired by children’s story books as they are colorful and bear a certain meaning. During this project I discovered that I’m still hanging on to my childhood though I’m a senior who’s future is at her doorstep. These emotional ties made the logistical process just that much more impactful, since I’m still figuring out how to use illustrator. If I could change one thing, it would be the line weight, currently, it’s a bit unbalanced, but other than that, I’m proud that I could incorporate a bit of my story regardless of my inexperience.

The transparency of the acrylic allows for any color to seep through with the LED pod, which made my selection easy as it would look impeccable and show ambiguity in “tear” which the swan sheds and if it really should be interpreted as something sorrowful. The hardest part of this project was figuring out how to express my creativity in a mandala. Now that I’ve gained experience, next time I’ll take more care with the line weight. I’m proud to say that this project has refined my skills which will be very helpful in the future.
