Introduction
In the Humor section, we were tasked to figure out, “What makes something funny?” I believe this project was created to take a load off of Seniors so that we can have fun with our last few weeks of Freestyle. Me, Tae, Theresa, Janine, and Lucy found that a song stuck in your head was hilarious. We made a parody of Cupid by a K-pop group named Fifty Fifty.
I had a lot of fun producing this product and am so thankful that Lucy Wang had my back throughout the who thing. This year would’ve ended so severely if there wasn’t someone like her around to keep depressed students, like me, from falling short
Behind the Scenes
Humorist Study
Mr. Bean was a childhood show for me, and he was delightful to watch. Mr. Bean’s character is derived from a British sitcom. His main character is outlandishly childish for an adult man who never talks. I would describe him as genius, selfish, and slow-witted but somehow likable from his gullibility. I would characterize his humor as satire, parody, sarcasm, and dry wit; I’ll analyze all of them:
Satire: Mr. Bean is 66 years old but acts like a middle school child; his character is relatively androgynous, which makes his character even more enjoyable. Mr. Bean’s movement: is weak, sneaky, and everything opposite of what an adult man is. He has naughty and selfish. One of my favorite moments in his show is when he gets into bed after preparing to sleep and finds himself forgetting to turn off the light. He leans over to his nightstand and opens the drawer to grab his Glock; he loads it, shoots at the ceiling, and goes back to sleep. When he tries to steal, he goofy plans out his plan, which will backfire on him because of his bad luck (absurdity) or because it was a dumb idea.
Parody: Mr. Bean series makes fun of daily life issues and lets intrusive thoughts win. When Mr.Bean encounters beautiful women, he shows that he is clueless and chooses the worst choices for the situation. It is similar to how boys act until they have gained some experience with talking to women. He takes advantage of free samples at grocery stores and tries out packaged toothbrushes before stealing them.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a series on Prime Amazon about Jewish women in the 1050s and early 9060s trying to become standup comedians when women at the time were typically a housewife or a secretary. At the story’s beginning, Ms. Maisel is married but is cheated on by her husband, who she leaves after finding out. Her humor combines Dark/Blue humor, Banter, Anecdotes, and Defusing anxiety.
Dark/Blue Humor: Mrs. Maisel gets cheated but decides to pursue her hobby of being a comic. She jokes about her experience of her husband cheating on her by saying that his secretary wasn’t nearly as pretty (talking about her boob size and other body parts.) She would later drunkenly show off her bust and get arrested for the first time. What makes her funny is how she tells her experience as a woman and describes herself as being perfect, yet still being cheated on regardless.
Defusing Anxiety: Throughout her life after her divorce, she goes through really tough experiences that women had in the 1950s and early 1960s, such as: messed up banking accounts, being a single mother, dying friends(poor living conditions, inadequate medical care), sexism in the show industry, racism, harassment, and sexism in the family, misunderstandings with very private LGTBQ community, regarding her having a job as a comic. She brings it into light and Dark and Blue humor in her acts.
I was able to apply most of the concepts and skills these humorist used in their acts. Including dark humor, parody, satire, sarcasm, and dry-wit.

Been dreaming of Freestyle’s new campus 🐙
Excited to leave the portables,
But Moving Day keeps being pushed back…..
(oh help, oh help)
[Pre-Chorus]
I’m feelin’ underwhelmed (underwhelmed)
Oh, I wish I’d have a building that could house me (house me)
Now I’m crying in a box 📦
So tired of waiting (Say what you say, but I want a new building) I’m
But still, I have no room, please, please!
[Chorus]
Gave second chances to construction!!
But now I’m left here feeling homeless!
Oh, the way my teachers make us feel we’ll move soon
Waiting is so dumb!
(Alt:It been so long)
DIALOGUE:
“I’m so excited to move in next week!!”
Dead: “It’s not happening”
“What about next year?”
[REPEAT Pre-Chorus]
I’m feelin’ underwhelmed (underwhelmed)
