Photo Blog #51: Food

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/30, ISO 104

I heavily debated between this photo, a photo of ramen, and also a photo of okonomiyaki, but eventually I decided upon this photo (despite the other two being my favorite foods), because I thought it would be fun to appreciate a type of food that I eat less often but also enjoy. Also, I thought that the meal itself looked gorgeous, which is why I snapped the photo in the first place.

Photo Blog #50: Using Props

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/60, ISO 138

For this particular project, I thought it would be a fun idea to tell a story that’s been happening recently at Freestyle: Jake’s attempts to get the students of Freestyle to collaborate with him in making the Freestyle yearbook. I thought that the marker and whiteboard would make for a good prop – as it’s telling the story of Jake’s frustrations of having to create these messages over and over again. I considered taking a photo of simply Jake’s messages, but I thought it would be a more interesting picture if I captured him while he was in the process of writing. (And I did get his permission to take this picture and use it for the project.)

Photo Blog #49: Modern Convenience

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/60, ISO 142

For this project, I thought it would be a fun idea to make an ‘advertisement’ for the modern convenience of packaging. The way things are packaged makes things very easy to manage and convenient – and I thought that showcasing that through a photo of an interesting form of packaging (or a way of packaging M&Ms that’s rather unique) would be a fun idea.

Photo Blog #48: Current Events

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/4000, ISO 104

For this photo blog, I thought that a photo that has to do with the current rainy season would be a fun idea. I thought that the idea of walking through the rain would be fun, but I also thought it would be a cool idea to convey how sometimes people don’t like the rain – which is why the photo is taken behind the fence, acting a bit like a cage. I also think that the red puddle in the back of the photo looks very cool, which is part of why I chose it.

Photo Blog #47: Depth Of Field

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/60, ISO 154

For this particular project, my friend was kind enough to be the model/subject for my photo. Out of the number of photos I took, some had both her and the pencil case in focus, while others had only her in focus and the pencil case was blurred. I liked all of the photos, but I thought that the one with the pencil case in focus and my friend blurred looked the most interesting, which is why I ultimately selected it.

Photo Blog #46: Deadly Sins

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/30, ISO 135

For this project, of the seven sins, I chose gluttony. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what I wanted kind of photo I wanted to take for this blog, but when I was out eating with friends, I realized that it would be a perfect opportunity to take a photo for the sin of gluttony – not only because we had just finished our plates, but because Lucy Good (shown in the photo above) is known for having a big personality. I thought that the setting and the subject of Lucy in the photo would fit the theme well, which is why I snapped the photo.

Photo Blog #45: Musical

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/15, ISO 113

For this photo blog, I thought that this photo would be a great choice – I love how the colors look in this photo, and how bright the screens are. Singing (or karaoke) is a big thing in Japan, and is a big part of the music culture, so I thought it would be a fun choice to focus on for this particular blog.

Photo Blog #44: Viewpoint

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/30, ISO 115

For this photo, we had to imagine something from a new perspective. I wasn’t quite sure how to go about this, so when I consulted my friends, they said that it would be interesting to use different camera angles to show that perspective – such as birds-eye-view. One of my friends was kind enough to be the subject for my photo – and out all of the photos we took I thought this one turned out the best.

Photo Blog #43: Film Noir

f Aperture: 2.2, Shutter Speed: 1/8, ISO 1680

For this project, we were supposed to take a photo that was dark and moody. While the garage is lit up for this photo, I thought that the light reflecting on the wall in a red color would help make the image look moody. I’m not quite sure what the story is for this one – I feel like it’s a shot that implies something about the person not being home because the car isn’t in the garage? But I did like how it turned out, which is why I chose it for this photo blog.

Photo Blog #42: Work

f Aperture: 1.8, Shutter Speed: 1/60, ISO 179

For this photo blog assignment, we were supposed to take a photo inspired by our work. I didn’t really feel comfortable taking a photo of my workplace, or customers, or any of my coworkers as a whole, so I thought it would maybe be a good idea to take a photo of one of the tasks that I would have to do while at work. The one I eventually decided on was the sorting of sensors – the sensors are placed on clothes so that an alarm goes off when a shoplifter tries to leave the store with them – and as cashiers, it’s our job to take them off of the clothes when they’re purchased. Later, it’s our job to sort the different parts of the sensors. While it can be a little nerve-wracking, due to the fact that there are a lot of needles, it can also be a bit soothing – it gives you something to do, while also acting as a break from having to interact with customers.
