This week’s prompt was, “The deadly sins are Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed and Sloth. Tell us a compelling story about one of the deadly sins.” After some consideration, I decided to focus on one of the sins that has plagued me more than the others throughout my life: sloth. I am a person who likes learning, accomplishing things, and working to improve myself. However, sometimes, I fall into a hole of avoiding responsibilities and putting off the tasks I have assigned myself in favor of something easier or more enjoyable. For example, even though I know I will feel better after I exercise, I may avoid starting my run in favor of scrolling through social media. However, if I can avoid committing that “sin of sloth,” then almost immediately after starting my run, I feel so much better about life. It’s a constant battle not to fall prey to any one of the 7 deadly sins, but I am proud of myself for continuing to push onwards and claim a better future for myself.
