Viewpoint

This week’s prompt was, “Viewpoint: Changing your viewpoint creates a different perspective and is often used by photographers to create interest. Shoot this from the viewpoint of another person.” For this prompt, my thinking got a little abstract. The lantern shown in the picture is found about 10 feet in the air on a path that I walk each school day to get to and from the bus stop. I am usually either extremely tired from waking early or from a long day at school when I use the path, meaning that I almost never bother looking up and taking in my surroundings. However, I was inspired to take this photo on a day where I was trudging home, tired as usual, but then happened to look up. It struck me that the way the light hit the lantern hanging off the tree was really beautiful, and I actually came back to the same spot later to take pictures of that specific angle. To me, the “viewpoint” shown in this photo is that of a different version of me. A version that was able to slow down, escape the stress and anxiety from overthinking about all the things I want to accomplish, and take a minute to stop and appreciate just how incredibly beautiful everyday life can be. In the future, I strive to become the person who can look at the world from this viewpoint more often.
