My name is Ashley Thakur, I am a second-year senior at freestyle. I’ve taken Animation, English, and Digital Media for both years here. I spend most of my time at home caring for my animals one of which is an elder bird. My other is a rabbit named Thumper, yes, like the one from Bambi. With my life being almost completely surrounded by animals and games I aspire to be an animator which is why I chose animation as my elective. Although we spent one year in quarantine, I promise to show you some of the best projects I have come to compose here at freestyle.

My years at Freestyle have expanded my skills in the animation, digital media and of course english department significantly. Not just in art but my team work, I found working with people in Freestyle to be extremely motivating.

Personally, my interest are pretty basic. I enjoy gaming, watching anime and drawing. However, through all that I love learning languages, cooking and crafting. The current languages I know are Hindi, Japanese, and Norweigan. Most of my interest spark from gaming and anime which makes me the creative person I am today.

After Freestyle, I’m planning deciding on my future. Either to be a Palentologist or an Animator. Both of these career choices are so unique and fun that i feel like it’s something I’ll always be motivated in. However, as biology in high school seemed to be a little hard for me I am heavily learning towards Animation. My 2 years in Freestyle have vastly improved my skills in animation.

My Projects

The projects I have chosen for you are my Zenith project and my 3d modeled weapon design. I specifically chose my Zenith because it is something I learned almost completely on my own. However, using the programs that they give you at freestyle, 2d rigging was new to me. It’s something I spent as much time as I could on it and still got a successful product out of. Along with my 3D weapon, I made this weapon based on my favorite animated character. Actually, both of my projects are based on games that I love and hold a great place in my heart. This 3D weapon was made while we were learning how to use Maya Studio. I really didn’t understand how to use Maya at first but after a little help this program became easy to use for me.

Zenith

My Zenith was something that was no learn in Freestyle. I decided to make a Vtuber model. I had no experience in 2D rigging so this was completely new to me. I also thought that this couldn’t be that hard since it should be like 3D rigging, which is what I have experience with. This is something I have been looking forward to do since my first year at freestyle but I have never had time for it. After seeing Senior last year do Vtubers as their Zenith I made that my project!

My 3D model Rigged and Moving!

I was very happy to do this project. As a cosplayer, being able to be a character in my own style that I have wanted to cosplay has been something I’ve wanted for years. I feel that this Sun design is just my start to something better. I’m glad freestyle gave me the motivation that I needed for this project, thank you fr everything PM animation, your energy was the best drive this year.

3D Weapon Model

I had no experience with 3D modeling when i started. I didn’t even think to 2D model ever until i came here. However, through the trails of decimating and help from my teacher I was able to make a really nice weapon! This was made with Maya, Zbrush and Substance Blender. I came up with the design myself based off Isaac Foster from Angels of Death.

3D modeled weapon complete!

I realized at one point that this skill would become really useful at one point. Not only did i found solace in making weapons a a 3D object. My friend make weapon concepts all the time and I get excited when they show me since I can then make then 3D! I feel like this skill is going to make me and others happy, which proves to be useful.

Reflection

I never thought I could make things like this. I thought after last year my drive and passion would be gone but being around my animation class really helped me. The energy the class had along with Mr. Cho’s help really helped me pass. I hope my classmates get far after highschool, we all have some great talent.
