Film

1 Minute Movie

We divided into two groups of 4 and we each made a 1-minute worth storyline. We presented our story and listened to other groups. Then Mr.Taylot told us to exchange out stories. My group filmed the story the other group made and the other group did ours. We finished up filming and were going to edit, but then he told us to exchange the footage too so that we can edit our own story just with different actors. It was a very interesting assignment and learned how film production doesn’t go as you plan, and that I have to accept the work even though I have no idea how the other group filmed our story.

1 Period Film

This was my very first in-class assignment at Freestyle Academy. One day we walked into the classroom and Mr.Taylor told us to make a group of 3. Then he assigned as in-class work, a 1-minute movie. Within 2.5 hours of class, we make a storyline, character, film, act, and edit. It was a very good opportunity to get to know my classmates and how this Freestyle Film works.

Lighting Scavenger Hunt

For this assignment, we got a list of lighting styles and we filmed with those lighting. It was after we had a lecture about lighting, so it was very entertaining to actually experiment with lights.

One Sam Band

This is the title of my Senior Narrative Film. I and my partner worked on it for about 8 months including all pre-production, production, and post-production process. The story is about a guy named Sam Balch and his band. He focuses too much on “winning” the competition and couldn’t care enough for his bandmates. However, as he learns how to care about himself AND his friends, he redeems himself. I will introduce you to how this movie was created, step by step.

Reflection

Throughout the project, I was able to observe and learn a lot of new things. The use of equipment, screenplay writing, shotlist making, casting process, and shooting. Each step was very fun even though I and my partner faced a lot of struggles and kept repeating revision and reflection. I also realized that collaboration and patience were important things to have in my mind because every small changes lead to a big change.
