Hello, my name is Behrj Baronian and I am a senior at Los Altos High School and Freestyle academy with an elective focus on design. I was tasked to share 2 projects that i’ve worked on that showcase the skills I have learned from Freestyle. The three projects that I have chosen to display are both my Zenith project, my Product ad triptych from Design and my Mandala project that I made in Digital media. I decided on using my Zenith project from Design because I believe it best showcases my photography skills that I have developed. I also believe that my Zenith project displays my most recent work so it represents all the work that I’ve put in over my 2 years here at freestyle. I chose the product design ad because I believe that this kind of work is what I’m best at, specifically logo making. Another project that I’m choosing to display is my Mandala project because it represents a lot about who I am as a person. Each individual detail created on the Mandala has significance to my life. I’m excited to showcase what I’ve created! You can reach me at behrjbaronian@gmail.com.

Zenith

My zenith project has been one of the hardest challenges that I’ve had to face at Freestyle. I had trouble choosing what I was to create in the first place due to the fact that we had little restriction when considering this project. As soon as I knew this I wanted to create a project that embodies my personality. I started with the idea of light painting using a led stick and a long exposure photograph and moved to just long exposure photography.

With long exposure photography my main goal was to capture light in a different way then we can see with the bare human eye. I chose multiple location with different light elements that would look interesting when considering long exposure. When considering long exposure photography I knew that cars and automobiles would be a huge part of the project because they have a lot of light and motion. Water was another interesting way to capture light because of the way the water begins to look silky in a long exposure setting.

My 3 biggest challenges when creating this project were proper lighting, using the correct lens, and choosing the correct editing effects. I had to make sure each photo was lit properly and not blown out for lighting when setting the camera to have an exposure of 30+ seconds. I had to use each of my 4 lenses for each shot to get the optimal photo when considering distance to the subject. Finally, I had to make sure my Photoshop edits were enhancing the photo rather than taking away from them. I had to also make sure that the edits were maintaining the rules of composition that I used for most of the photos.

Mandala Project

For this project we had to create a few different mandala designs using specific settings on adobe illustrator. We had to create a 6,8,10, and 12 panel mandala. I decided that the mandala I chose to display should be the one that I believe has the most meaning. One of the tools that I learned how to use was different brushes in Adobe Illustrator. The most difficult part of the project was setting up the Illustrator file.

One thing I would do differently about the mandala shown is that I would experiment more with brush width and create more free flowing art rather than the rigid lines I’ve created. I took a lot of inspiration from mazes and wanted to create a work that represented me as a person. I took a lot of inspiration from really detailed pane glass art with the lines.
