Viewpoint
This week’s photo was to be taken from a different viewpoint or perspective. I decided to get down really low to the ground and look at my dog. I am slightly allergic to grass, so being super close to the ground like that quickly made me itchy all over, which wasn’t the best feeling. However I think it was really interesting just to see how low my dog gets when she takes a nap and just kind of flops to the ground. I’d imagine seeing her face so large close would be terrifying for all of the bugs in the grass. In this photo, she looks incredibly peaceful, and honestly I wish I could nap as easily as she can. f7.1 1/165 ISO 100
Film Noir
The inspiration for the photo this week was Film Noir. I decided to use this photo that I took while on a road trip that seemed to really capture the gloomy nature of this film and photography genre. I think that the streaks from the window reflection and the blurred out frame add a lot of subtle character. The noise that is visible in the clouds also gives a lot of texture and adds more depth to the picture. f5.6 1/195 ISO 6400
Work
I currently do not have a job. However, I do have a large time occupier in the form of school. This photo features all of my AP Prep booklets. Each one has several practice tests, problems, etc, which is very helpful when it comes to studying. Between working on freestyle and AP classes, I probably put in enough time for a full time job. Maybe once the school year is over I will actually be able to get an actual paying job, but today is not that day. f2.8 1/64 ISO 800
Color Theory
I have never done color grading before, so this was my first stab at it. The original photo already had a lot of blue, so I decided to lean into that when color grading. I added more blue into it, and gave it a more melancholic feel. I don’t know what kind of movie that this would feature in, but I would guess that it would be an establishing shot of location that the main characters enter to talk about something plot relevant. f7.1 1/165 ISO 1600
New Year Light
This photo was taken during the new year. My family got sparklers and we had a whole bunch of fun with them in the back yard. We tried to write out words, but that was a little harder than expected. I liked this photo because the randomness made it look like a lightning strike and the magnesium coming off of the sparkers left really cool light trails. f22 10 ISO 1600
Elements
Our prompt was to find something inspired by the elements. I chose to take a photo of this candle because I really liked how the orange of the fire contrasted with with the green wax. Fire is one of the most dangerous, yet helpful of the elements. With a wrong move, it can clear entire forests, but it also paved the way for keeping houses warm, cooking, and even rockets. It is slightly ironic to me that something that could potentially be so destructive can also be shrunk down into tiny little candles used for decorations and scents. f4.5 1/60 ISO 250
Rule of Odds
We were tasked with using the rule of odds in urban scape or architecture. I decided to use this photo of the five beams making up a bridge railing. Bridges are a staple of architecture, and one of my favorite activities as a child was doing the bridge building challenges. This particular type of bridge is called an beam bridge. All the weight supporting the bridge structure is divided between the two bases on either side of the creek. This was a fun photo to take and I really like how the raid paint chipping off appeared in the photo. f5.6 1/25 ISO 1600
Seasons
Our task was to find inspiration in the seasons and how the weather is changing. I really liked this photo of a leaf because with the way that the light was coming through, it showed off a more fiery orange color and you could see all of the veins. The contrast of the largely green background fit the idea of change with the dichotomy of leaf ready for autumn, and the rest of the area around it still clinging to summer. f5 1/60 ISO 1250
Gratitude
This week was inspired by the idea of what we are grateful, so I had to take a photo of my dog. I love my dog a lot, and even when she gets into trouble, she never ceases to make me giggle and smile. We like to joke in our family that despite being almost three, she still hasn’t grown out of being a puppy. She is still just as eager to run around and chase balls and cause trouble as she was when she was six months old. She is my favorite dog and the cutest one in the whole world. f1.8 1/100 ISO 400
Rule of Thirds Emotion
Our prompt for this week was to evoke emotion using the rule of thirds. I decided to use this photo I took of this decaying flower. The contrast between the bright greens and yellows make the black/blue of the dead flower stick out a lot more. I think that this captures the emotion of sadness and a unique kind of desperation as it went from a beautiful flower to something ugly, clinging to life and the stem, attempting to convince the world that it is still alive. f5.6 1/80 ISO 1600
