If there is something about the future that I am excited about, it is being able to see more of the world. This photo was taken on vacation in April. We were helping fix a trail, but after shoveling for a while, I looked up and saw this gorgeous sunset. The entire hillside was golden and lit up, and we all stopped working for twenty minutes just to watch the sun go down. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. The future brings more opportunities to find the beautiful moments like this that make your soul feel fulfilled. f1.8 1/1371 ISO 20

This photo was supposed to be framing something using natural frames. I love the contrast between the natural ivy and the wooden fence and then the metal chainlink. I think compositionally it turned out pretty well, but I do wish that I had gotten the doors a little more centered inside of the frame. It was a slight challenge to find something that worked as a natural frame, but I think I succeeded in that. f6.3 1/395 ISO 100

This week’s challenge was to do a self portrait inspired by what we thought other people saw when they viewed us. I decided to go with this photo of me laying my head on top of several work books. The time that I interact with people the most is at school, and I am rarely fully awake and energetic. I am constantly working on Freestyle projects and homework, which accounts for the clutter around me. The final piece, my headphones, is because I am rarely without them while working whether in class or at home. It is very uncommon for me not to have headphones on me on any given day. f2.8 1/64 ISO 800

For this week’s challenge of being inspired by food, I decided to go with my mom’s granola. Some people have the cookie jar, but we have a granola jar instead. About every month or so, my mom makes several pans of granola, and that become breakfast for as long as it lasts. I love her granola, and the day it runs out is a sad one as our whole family has to wait until she makes another batch. f5 1/64 ISO 2500

The prompt this week was to use props. I dragged my brother out to do a mini photo shoot as he is a pretty avid football player and footballs seem as good of prop as any. Of course, this was in exchange for me letting him take a few photos with my camera afterwards (most of which ended up being of my bad posture). I really like how the colors work together in this photo, with the brown from the football, to the white of the net, and then the person in the back. f5.6 1/330 ISO 100

If there is one modern convenience that I could not live without, it would most definitely be cars. I love to go places and do things, and the invention of the car makes it so much easier. I also love to spend time just sitting and driving. It is incredibly cathartic to drive by yourself. Of course, I am aware it is awful for the environment which makes this a little harder to love, but driving makes me really calm. f5.6 1/40 ISO 125

Something that is always going on nowadays is construction. This photo was taken on a road trip through California. We were passing the prettiest hills, but we got to a spot where there was a bunch of construction. Suddenly, instead of the beautiful nature, there were piles of rubble and dirt and large machines working. I have a feeling constant construction is going to be a continuing trend as we keep pushing the boundaries of the natural areas near us for more infrastructure, but it still makes me sad. f5.6 1/790 ISO 250

One of my favorite things as it gets closer to summer time is that the berries start showing up in our back yard. This year we have lots and I am super excited. However, it will be a battle between us and the squirrels to see who can grab more. I really love the colors in this one and how the red contrasts so well with the green. This is such a fun photo, and I am really pleased with how it turned out. f4 1/165 ISO 100

The prompt for this week was the seven deadly sins, and for full transparency, I really struggled with this prompt. However, I did take this photo. It is obvious that the driver takes great care and pride in his car which was absolutely spotless when it passed me, so I think it counts for the prompt. This photo was actually surprisingly hard to take, despite the fact that the car came by me while I was walking multiple times. I kept forgetting to check my camera settings before taking a photo in my rush, and so I would get a bad photo. Eventually I figured it out and I think that it turned out pretty well. f20 1/1327 ISO 1600

Our inspiration this week was music. I consider myself a very musical person. From a young age, I was learning the violin and later switched over to the viola, which is photographed here. I love music in all of its forms, whether it be classical or more pop. There is something so wonderful about listening to melodies, fitting together parts, and just plain ol’ experiencing it. I probably listen to music a little too much, but it is too good to ever pass up. f5.6 1/60 ISO 1600
