The Art
In design class, I created two main pieces of art. The first was a book jacket for my story FALLEN LEAF and the other was for my surrealist unit.
Book Jacket
The book jacket was the first time I have had to take a story and tailor the art to fit the story. It was very helpful to have written the story because I knew where I wanted to go with the artwork. Nonetheless it was a good experience to learn how to create a visually piece that would hopefully entice someone to read this book. After building the poster for a previous unit, I knew I had to have a popping yet subtle color scheme and the earth and tree palette seemed to fit this very nicely.
Surrealist Art
The surrealist project takes into a lot more than the realistic life that we see everyday. Surrealism calls on your subconscious to think deeper and interpret juxtaposed scenes that may not necessarily make sense. I decided to give a throw back to my Hot Wheels days with the addition of my car. The idea surfaced around a post-apocalyptic style scene and the possible story of the lone survivors who managed to escape the blast.
