Narrative II

The Animation!

Welcome to my web audio page! Here you will find out all about what it was like to spend 9+ hours animating and waiting for 77 stressful hours as you wait to see the animation play for more than ten second clips. I will also break down the website fundamentals and go over the final design.

I decided to spend the majority of this unit working on my animation. That means everything you see from the story idea, drawing, creating, placement, audio recording, and finalizing was done by yours truly. A few of the challenges that I encountered include:

  • time crunch
  • drawing talent
  • not enough computer RAM
  • computer and application crashes

  • These are just to name a few.
The animation was very glitchy and not as smooth as I had hoped due to the fact that I could only RAM preview about 10 seconds of footage at a time. This pretty much meant that I didn't get to see my animation until it had spent 70+ hours rendering. I ran out of time for animating legs and the mouths, but I really was just trying expose myself the idea of 3D animation and all the cool camera angles I could do with it.

As we are nearing the end of our Freestyle careers, we had to finally learn not to depend on the easy templates that Adobe Dreamweaver provided for us during the first two units during my Junior year. The solution ... php!!! I actually really enjoy php because I get a little OCD (CDO) and I like being able to reduce the clutter and also the many server applications that PHP allows you to create. A few things that I was able to create included a password protected website because PHP is a server based domain and you can't look in the html to find the passcode to unlock the website, a template for a website, and the start of XML files. All of these will be very helpful in the progression of my webdesign and coding careers.

I decided to stick with a simple design layout as I progressed into learning the basics of PHP and how all the REQUIRE files work like an external style sheet or javascript file. This also allowed me more time to allocate to my animation although it was a struggle in the end.
