Conceptual

During Freestyle’s Conceptual unit, we learned many important skills – using our DSLR cameras, Photoshop, Adobe Audition, and Premier Pro are just some examples. Learning how to use professional software allowed students to build a basis of very important skills for someone in the creative field to have. Learning these skills was pretty confusing for me, and I felt like an old lady trying to figure out her phone settings. I kept clicking on the wrong things, forgetting the keyboard shortcuts, and saving my projects to the incorrect folders. I still felt very accomplished figuring things out and completing them. (Even if they were pretty late. Sorry, Mr. Flo!)

SFMOMA Art Reflection

Following the field trip to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, we reflected and analyzed an art piece selected that gave us a sense of “Awe.” Walking through the museum and browsing the art pieces, I didn’t feel any sense of awe at first. This was until I walked into the art installation, “The Visitors.” The atmosphere and the emotion that I felt in that dark room made me immediately choose this installation for my Awe Reflection Video. With my knowledge on Premiere Pro and the Tascam Audio recorder, I was able to create my reflection video. Something that I wish I had done better was speak more clearly. (I stumbled over my words and had to edit out a lot.)

Behind the Scenes

I used Adobe Premier Pro to make my reflection. I downloaded free, un-copyrighted audio, uploaded my Tascam recording, and my media from the museum.

Parody Song

(This reflection is on the Freestyle Website.) I decided to do a parody on “Washing Machine Heart” by Mitski. I think that by now, most people, regardless of if they listen to her or not, know that Mitski’s songs are pretty gut wrenching. I wanted to make the song fun – so I decided to sing about the recent tiktok and gen Z trends. I find it really funny how much people have been obsessing over labubus, matcha, dubai chocolate, and Sephora skincare in 2024-2025.
I honestly procrastinated coming up with the lyrics until the last moment because I was so worried about making things rhyme and sound good, but then I reminded myself that it’s a parody song, and It’s really not that deep. Now, I’m fully aware that my singing brings tears to people’s eyes, (Not in the good way though) but I had a lot of fun recording and editing this. Looking back, I would have probably added more sound effects, and layered voice overs to make it more interesting, but I couldn’t really figure out what to say or do.
There’s not supposed to be a deep and meaningful message behind these lyrics. It’s just supposed to be funny. think the thing that I’m most proud of is just putting together the whole thing, which doesn’t seem like much, but I’m still proud of it. I cannot stress this enough: THIS IS IRONIC.

Photoshop Blend Modes

Reflection copy and pasted from Canvas:

1. I value learning about blend modes because adobe is a professional software that (In my opinion) is very complicated, and I’m glad to learn the tools one at a time.
2. I’m planning on making comics and designing my characters on photoshop in the future, and learning blend modes will help me with improving the images. I also use procreate, and I had no idea what screen, overlay, and multiply were, so this knowledge will help me with my digital art hobby at home as well.

DSLR Practice Photos

Shallow Depth of Field – I really enjoy focusing on one object. I think it makes the photo pop and look much more 3 dimensional.

Long Exposure Light Photography – This is probably my favorite thing to do with the camera. I had so much fun playing with the light wands. As you can see, my dog and my mom are my two victims who I succumbed to standing still while I dance around with a light. My dog kept moving around though, so I wasn’t able to capture her face clearly.

Flash Practice with Portraits in front of backdrops – Unfortunately, since I am an Animation student my camera was not able to connect to the flash machine add on. I enjoyed messing around with the light angle.

P-Mode with ISO changes – I honestly really like how grainy photos look, and depending on what atmosphere you go for, it can be a very interesting photo.

Altering White Balance – I enjoy taking very saturated images with a blue tint, I think it looks really cool. It also effects how light can look.

Animation

Animation has been my all time favorite class this year. I’ve enjoyed bringing my characters to life so much. Learning the different principles of Animation has helped me greatly to improve my animation skills. We learned how to Animate by hand in photoshop, as well as learn how to animate using Dragonframe, a stop motion application. I value the hard work that it takes to Animate. The hours of time and hundreds of frames has made me appreciate Animation even more, and AI will never compete.

History of Animation

This is the essay on the history of Animation that I wrote.

Zoetrope Animation

I had a lot of fun making my Zoetrope Animation. I decided to animate one of my OCs. She loves bubblegum.

Phenakistoscope

Title: Eyes

For my Phenakistoscope, I wanted to make a cool animation with eyes and mouths, since I think it looks really cool. Whenever I doodle, I almost always draw eyes and mouths in the corner of my homework pages. I’ve filled up entire pages of these doodles, and even animated them on procreate. I also wanted to use bright and contrasting colors. I had a lot of fun with the gold marker outline as well. If I were to redo this project, I would definitely want to include bolder lines and more movement.

Flipbook 1

Title: Bullet

This was one of my favourite projects to do! I had so much fun animating my OCs and making the cool transitions. I had a lot of fun with this flipbook and I’m really proud of this one.

Flipbook 2

Title: Cyclops

It was so cool seeing the transitions between everyone’s flipbooks in the exquisiute corpse project. I decided to animate one of my OC’s pet, Cyclops. (Yes, I know he has three eyes so he should be named triclops but that’s the point of the joke. The transition of zooming out was really fun to do. RIP, my grey markers.
