This week, I utilized color contrast and symmetrical balance in my photograph to create a focal point and visual weight. The white book is a stark contrast to the black objects on either side of it and the dark surface beneath it. The black writing on the spine of the white book draws attention to the book as well. The Tascam recorder and candle are also intentionally placed on either side of the book to create symmetry but don’t take the focus away from the center of the image. All of these factors give the book a heavy visual weight, and this results in our eyes being more drawn to the book than anything else.
