Adapting to new environments, frequently

Confronted with the assignment of writing a one page paper about a belief I held as an integral part of my life, I instantly knew what to write. I always love being put in a new situation, and navigating my way through it. I love to explore and adapt, and I think everyone should find similar comfort.

In addition to my written piece, I also produced a video using After Effects to convey my message visually:

I believe in adapting to new environments, frequently.

Since I was a child, I’ve had big, brown wandering eyes, searching and seeking novelty. Whether it was my squinted eyes and goofy smile sparkling at someone across me on the train, being adrift at Ikea testing the softest cushions, or having to be strapped to my stroller to ensure I would not run for what was unknown, I am always ready to venture and explore.

The knack for thrill and interaction doubles as a blessing and a curse. Meeting new people and embarking upon daring opportunities is always appealing, but as when more serious aspects are at hand, such as discussing my future and properly taking advantage of my productivity, my strength and motivation often declines. Yet, the positives easily outweigh the negatives. I push myself harder and keep busy in order to stay organized and happy. Mainly, I involve myself within my community. Freestyle Academy has been the biggest change in surroundings through my educational career thus far. I have lived in Los Altos/Mountain View since I was 4, and consistently stayed within the district for schooling. Joining Freestyle was a personal choice I made on a limb, as I hadn’t had much experience with digital art prior, and did not know if I would enjoy it. At first I greatly struggled with meeting deadlines, and learning to use the new software and technology, but as new routines form and practice turns to improvement, I adjusted, and found my place.

Without adapting to Freestyle, I would have lost incentive to grasp knowledge within my typical high school courses, and not have such a value for new opportunities. With a creative outlet, and desire to shift and morph to a new setting, I managed to stay stable and happy. As I graduate Freestyle Academy, I plan to continue to attain valuable experiences in college, and attain valuable experiences beyond education. My eyes will continue to wander, and I will continue to expose myself to new environments.
