My name is Eloise Gilbert-Fagen, and I’m an animation student. My interests include psychology, politics, history, music, and drawing.

I selected these projects because I’m proud of the thought that went into creating them and the aesthetic choices I made.

Some feedback I’d like to recieve is how I can improve my composition and timing.

My future plans do not include animation or art as any kind of career path, although I may continue pursuing it as a hobby. I will be attending Lewis and Clark College as a Psychology major, and I hope to go on to grad school in order to be able to conduct research in the field.

My email is eloisegilbertfagen@gmail.com.

Project One

This project was for the reflections unit in August of my senior year. We had to create a Google doodle for an event that happened on our birthday, and since I share a birthday with the author of Mary Poppins, I wanted to do something related to that. I chose to base my project off of the iconic dance sequence from the movie with the chimney sweeps on the rooftops because it’s the scene I most remember from watching the movie when I was younger.

I feel that the atmosphere I created in this gif is effective, with the chimneys disappearing into the fog and the chimneysweep seeming to be the only person who’s awake. I also think that the composition was ok and it’s pretty easy to follow the character around the screen.

Although the animation itself is not perfect at certain places, I think that it is expressive for most of the gif.

Reflection

Creating this gif was very enjoyable for me. The concept was exciting to me until the end and I never got bored with it. This project was a great one to start the year off on because it was very self-directed and I just got to be creative. Figuring out how to loop something is also a skill that is useful to have. Overall, this project is one of my favorites from my time at freestyle and I’m proud of it.

Project Two

ARVE Error: Mode: lazyload not available (ARVE Pro not active?), switching to normal mode

For my second project, I chose my animation reel. At the end of this year, we compiled all of the moments from our animations that we were proud of.

I chose moments from films from both my junior and senior year that I thought were acceptable. I also tried to choose from a pretty wide variety of animations, but still keep it brief.

Reflection

This project was actually pretty difficult because I’m not usually proud of the things I make in class. However, it was a good learning experience to really think about the stuff I did well, and being able to make a reel that flows nicely is a skill that would be important if I wanted to pursue animation as a career, which I don’t.
