Narrative 2

Similar to last year, I had a narrative project in English/Digital Media and my elective, Film. Here we were challenged to create a story, though more complex than a story we created Junior year.

English

The first assignment we had in English was a Research Presentation. This kicked off our Worldbuilding because we were assigned to research a topic that connected to our Worldbuilding idea. I decided to research cluster munitions in order to learn more about the weapons we wanted to use in our world.

Following the Research Presentation, we started to collaborate more in our groups of four. Together, we created character with complex relationships, created the landscape of our world, and established the rules of our world. After creating our world we pitched a slide deck to the class.

INCLUDE SLIDES

We also were challenged to create a Surreal Composition that related to our world.

Artist Statement

The piece I designed was a character I created called Irsa. She is 18 years old and around 5’4” with a start shaped birthmark on her right ankle. Irsa is a character curious about the monster (malice) in our works and likes to explore in the night. In order to create this image I used the help of AI to create Irsa. I gave gemini a detailed description of my character, and then chose the character I was satisfied with. I then used images from google to add additional features like the necklace and star. The necklace is a gift she got from her mom before she passed away and Irsa has never taken it off since. The star is a cut out she holds because due to her birthmark, she believes a star is a protective symbol which she likes to have with her during evening adventures.

This piece/character relates to my World Building Project because Irsa is a side character who is curious about the unique malice within our world. Malice are creatures that intend to harm others along with sin. If a person has an abnormal amount of Malice, they will transform into malcations after death. The energy cannot be destroyed and so the creatures are reincarnated into mindless monsters. The main message I wanted to convey in my image was the appearance of my character and I was motivated to add in features that were symbolic to Irsa. I like how I added the features in a way for them to not be too obvious so that the audience has to dig deeper in order to find the true meaning behind them. I have been researching weapons and specifically cluster munitions in English. The piece I created relates to my research because the scars and wounds Irsa has on her body and face are from weapons used within our world. Since Irsa goes out on side quests alone at night, she often isn’t aware of the potential harm she steps into, specifically explosives she doesn’t notice right away.

Reflecting on this project, I really enjoyed putting together a character that I created. I liked how I got to use Adobe Photoshop and practice the use of the erase tool in order to blend images. I think this project allowed me to become super comfortable with photoshop and I am excited to use it more in the future.

Digital Media

Funny Composition

In Digital Media we first created 2 Funny Compositions. I decided to use images I have taken for photoblogs, and add elements to make them funny.

I really enjoyed doing this project. It allowed me to be creative and I liked the freedom we were given. I also got more comfortable with illustrator through this assignment.

Motion Graphics

Another assignment was AE Motion Graphics. We were challenged to create multiple Motion Graphics with the help of video instruction, then we were challenged to create one on our own.

My AE Motion Graphics Video

This was the most challenging assignment for me in the unit. I had never used Adobe After Effects before so it was hard for me to learn a new platform.

Multi-Layered Art Project

My favorite assignment from this unit was the Multi-Layered Art Project. This project connected back to our Worldbuilding assignment. Here, we were challenged to create an illustration on Adobe Illustrator that related to an element(s) in our world. After created our image(s) digitally, we then printed them, and assembled our layered art.

I really enjoyed this assignment because it was hands-on based. I liked how we had the creativity of designing our own illustration, and then getting to put it together. This assignment was super rewarding.

Film

In Film we had the biggest project of the year, Senior Narrative. This consisted of pitching a story idea to the class, writing a screenplay, filming our movie, and editing our film. My group did a golf film.
