Introduction

These projects highlight creativity though poetry, music, art, animation, experimental film and web production, challenging me to express my opinions in unique ways. It has allowed me to develop technical communication skills by learning a variety of modern professional equipment and applications such as DSLR Cameras, Tascam Audio Recorders, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Avid Pro Tools, WordPress, and Google Apps.

I really value being a Freestyle student because I am able to express my creativity in ways I would of never thought of. In both my English and Digital Media class, I have been challenged to explore my thinking and have learned that there aren’t wrong ways of doing things. I am grateful for Freestyle and the technology it offers, giving me an experience I never thought I would have the access to in high school.

Art Reflection

Within the first few days of school, we went on a class field trip to SF MOMA. When visiting, we were able to walk around and admire the different and unique art that filled the museum, and were assigned to take an image of a piece of art, which we would later write about in our English class, and make a video about it in our Digital Media class. This assignment taught me think in an artistic way and write about something visual. Additionally, this project helped me grow technically because it helped me learn how to interact with Premiere Pro, and how to apply cool features to text.

Parody Song

For this assignment I worked with my classmate Carlos Buntz in order to create our parody song. We first began by choosing a song, which ended up being “Let It Go” (Frozen), and then we replaced the lyrics to be about In-N-Out, a local fast food restaurant. After doing this, we went into the recording studio and learned how to use microphones in order to record our lyrics. Finally, we edited our song in Adobe Audition and added reverb.

Parody Lyrics

My hunger grows as the night gets old

No food to be seen

A moment of isolation

And it looks like I need to eat

The smell of In-N-Out swirls in the air

Cant resist the urge, I need my animal fries

Let me in don’t close the store

Be the big back you know you want to be

Consume don’t feel, they may not know

Well, now they know

Let me eat, let me eat

Cant hold my hunger back anymore

Let me eat, let me eat

Get me my animal fries before I leave

I don’t care what there going to say

I need my food

Animal fries are my favorite food anyway

It funny how my milkshake makes everything seen sweet

And the hunger that once controlled me, isn’t in me anymore

Its time to see what I can eat

To test my limit and keep eating

No hunger, no anger, no diet for me

I am free

Let me eat, let me eat

I am no longer hungry anymore

Let me eat, let me eat

I got my animal fries and shake

No longer worried about get my food

I got my food

And In-N-Out is my favorite food anyway

Artist Statement

Our inspiration for this project was food, specifically In-N-Out, we both go there frequently, and Carlos works there. The song highlights our two favorite orders: animal fries and a shake. This project helped us grow artistically and technically. We gained a better understanding of Adobe Audition, learned to normalize audio, record, add different tracks, and become more comfortable with the software. We were able to creatively develop the lyrics and conceptualize our parody. Initially, we struggled with our topic. Our original idea was procrastination, but we didn’t like how the lyrics were sounding. We then switched to singing about In-N-Out. The most challenging part was forming creative lyrics that fit our new idea and the song well. If we could redo this project, we would choose a different song. “Let it Go” has a good beat and catchy verse, but a different song might have suited our In-N-Out lyrics better. We are proud of the lyrics we created and the knowledge we gained using Adobe Audition. In the future, we will apply the creativity and technical skills we developed from this project to other areas of our education, now that I know how to record and edit audio effectively. This project helped us appreciate other forms of art. We realized how much work goes into each creative idea and how every piece of art has unique aspects that make it special. We also learned that art is not just visual; it can be expressed through audio as well.

Film

In this class, I learn how to operate a camera, how to pitch ideas, and how to edit using Premiere Pro. I really enjoy this class because I am able to express my creativity in video format. I get to think of unique ideas, and execute it the way I wish. I value being a film student because it teaches me how to produce better films and allows me to explore a hobby of mine.

Experimental Film

This film was the first one I created independently. In the beginning of this assignment I got the prompt, “I am experiencing the feeling of confidence through destruction.” From this statement, I thought of using a mirror as a symbol of confidence, and paint as an act of destruction. I really enjoyed how abstract and open ended this assignment was, and I really enjoyed making a film with no limitations.

Film Exercises

This was an assignment in the beginning of the year that helped us learn about different shot types.
This was an double exercise were I learned how to do doublement. This assignment was challenging though I found it a useful skill to learn.
