Freestyle Portfolio
After completing two years at Freestyle Academy, I have seen myself grow in many ways and I have been able to create products I would of never imagined doing in High School. Below are three products that I am most proud of after my time at Freestyle Academy.
Experimental Film
This is the film I made in our Experimental unit, my junior year in Film class. I really enjoyed the freedom we were given in this assignment. After given the sentence “I am experiencing the feeling of confidence through destruction,” I was tasked to create a film. I had fun brainstorming and finding creative ways to express this sentence. I also enjoyed making memories with my dad since he was the actor in this film.
Documentary Magazine
This is another assignment I did in junior year, it was during the documentary unit in English class. For this assignment, we were challenged to pick a person or place within our community and interview them about a specific topic. I chose Elizabeth Estes who is the founder of a nonprofit, Breaking Barriers. After collecting interviews from her, I created a magazine article in Digital Media that told her story. Back in 1990 Elizabeths twin sister, and her, were held hostage for 7 hours. To this day Elizabeth still lives with this trauma. I learned about the trauma she still has and how it has empowered her to create Breaking Barriers. Her story was truly inspiring and it made me feel more connected within my community.
Zenith Documentary Short
Another one of my favorite products that I produced at Freestyle Academy was one of my Documentary Shorts from the Zenith unit. This project is know as the, “Ultimate Freestyle Project,” where you are given complete freedom to create anything you want with the knowledge you have gained over your 2 years at Freestyle. For my project, I wanted to create three Documentary Shorts (nature, DITL, and sports). My favorite video that I created was my sports Documentary short. Sports have always been a big part of my life so this was fun for me to make.
