This unit included several little short activities that taught the use of important tools such as lighting, audio recording, and framing. We learned many useful aspects of pre-production, production, and post-production that all culminated in creating the Senior Narrative Film, the biggest project of the Freestyle experience.
One of our exercises was a minute long film. In small groups, we made storyboards, which were then swapped with another group. We then shot a film using a storyboard from another group. The SD cards we shot on were swapped with another group, and we edited a different film. Below is the one that my group edited.
The 1 period film was a film made in one period. My group developed an idea and shot it all in the constraints of a single class period.
The lighting scavenger hunt taught us the use of lighting and different lighting methods. We learned about different types of lights and moods created with them.
The dialogue scene was an experiment into learning how to record and cut dialogue together.
The multi cam edit/acting exercise taught us a little bit about how to direct actors, and what their experience is like. It also taught us how to edit when two cameras are used at the same time.
Narrative Film
This film included a lot of preparation and work. Below are a few of the planning aspects.
First, we had to pitch our ideas. The film I pitched ultimately did not come to fruition, but the idea that I went with was that of my narrative partner. The logline of this project was: When an orderly man blacks out, he kills people.
