Compared to last year, animation was a little tough because we got introduced to 3D modeling and 3D animation. We discovered new software like Maya and ZBrush. It took a while to learn the software but it was definitely worth it because of the cool stuff we made.

3D Character Bio

Our first assignment was to model a character of our own choice. So for me, I modeled an Egyptian god. My choice was pretty complicated compared to others I would say, because my character required a lot of details and since it was my first time, it was pretty difficult to overcome the struggle.

Reflection

After learning how to 3D model, we started learning how to animate in 3D! It was quite tough since I wasn’t completely used to the new software but I soon got the hang of it. The LipSync animation was one of the big things that I struggled with because the modeling software kept lagging so it was a little difficult to get that to work. But when we got the hang of 3D animating, our next assignment was to work in a collaborative project which was extremely fun! My group had 4 people, me, Nicholas, Theresa, and Lucy. We did a 3D animated short story for our collaborative project. For 3D animating the character, I was given a MoCap suit where I basically do the moves that we wanted the main character in our story to do. So every movement in the story was done by me and it was really cool how perfectly it worked out. The team animation is definitely worth a watch! For animation, I wasn’t really inspired by anything but I did have a lot of ideas in mind when I worked on the assignments, so it was fun creating something of your own using new softwares.
