Introduction
The Conceptual Unit focuses on the idea of taking risks when doing projects involving poetry, music, art, animations, experimental film and web production. This allows students to not only gain the concept of risk-taking, but to also push themselves in taking challenges. In addition, students take on professional equipment and applications (such as DSLR Cameras, Tascam Audio Recorders, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Avid Pro Tools, WordPress, and Google Apps) in order to fully develop their technical communication skills. Personally, I find Freestyle as a helpful course to improve creative and technical skills. English allows me to express my creative side via writing techniques. Digital Media is a practice for many applications in editing and technical adjustments. My elective class, Film, allows me to practice both creative and technical skills from my required classes.
Haiku
Haiku. A type of short poetry originating from Japan. In English, I learned how to write a haiku poem. A haiku must consist of the following: three lines minimum and maximum, must total to seventeen syllables (Line 1 & 3 should be 5 syllables, Line 2 should be 7 syllables), punctuation and capitalization can vary. In Digital Media, we utilized ProTools and PrimerePro to make the read of the haiku far more interesting and in better quality.
This photo represented my Haiku’s idea of loneliness and isolation from others. I was required to show jealously from being bullied, so I wrote of a person who was constantly bullied vocally for being different (in this case, poor), and thus gaining a burning jealously from within.
Poetry
Unlike Haiku, Poetry is longer and is less limited to wording and expression. Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme (that is just something optional for poets), it is an art form that expresses a moment or an idea the poet has in their mind. Using Photoshop (to create an appealing image of the poem) and ProTools (to create a recording of reading the poem), students can express their poetry in a technical format.
Personally, the number of times reading the poem right was a starter, I also had to use ProTools to give my a read a better quality (that includes the intention statement). Overall, the Photoshopping wasn’t too bad, it actually was quite easy to make a poetic image to express what my poem was all about.
Photoshop Blend Mode Editing
Photoshop Bend Modes are a strategy in Photoshop to change an image to make better quality pictures or to add desired effects/items into the image. Ever since then, I have been using blend modes to help improve my photography works. I also now have an understanding on some of the many uses of Photoshop itself and how it can be utilized in any job or task that it is needed most.
Conceptual experimental Film
Experimental films are a category of film that is considered risky for most filmmakers. In truth, it is one of the most complicated types of films to produce due to its requirement to have no sort of speaking and to create content that is out of place of the usual norm of film.
If I hadn’t truly learned humility, I would be looking at this experiment film in complete shame. The reason I don’t is because this is a learning experience for me. I learn not only basic techniques in film, but ways I can improve myself in the long run as I prepare to make more future films.
