Mandala

In Digital Media class, we used Illustrator techniques such as clipping masks and radial symmetry to draw mandalas, to be engraved onto a material of our choosing. I chose to laser engrave my personal mandala onto leather, as shown in the image below.

While creating my mandalas, I tried to create a kind of cottagecore vibe, including elements such as leaves, flowers, clouds, and etc in my black and white mandala. In my colored mandala, I used oranges, greens, yellows and whites to draw over my black and white mandala and create an effect that I think resembles a butterfly wing.

While creating my mandalas, I learned about myself that I’m not that great at creating this kind of art. It somewhat bores me that I’m creating a more abstract and more structured artwork than I usually produce, but still, I found it therapeutic.
