Showcase

Hi, Welcome to my Freestyle Showcase! My name is Jamie Maclean and I am a senior at Freestyle academy. At freestyle, I take Film, Digital Media, and English, and throughout these 3 classes, I have created many different projects and learned many different skills. However, for this page I had to pick just 2 projects that show off the best of what I’ve created here at freestyle.

The 2 projects I have chosen are my Zenith project from Film and my Multi-Layer Wood Art Project from Digital Media. I chose my zenith project because it shows off my passion for music as well as a my passion for film and I feel like it is my most polished and best project I’ve completed at freestyle. On top of that, I just had a lot of fun creating my zenith and I’m proud of what I created. I chose my multi-layer wood art because it was one of my favorite projects that I completed in digital media and it took a lot of time and work to finish. It also shows the skills that I have learned in Adobe Illustrator which is one of the main programs that we have learned in digital media. Overall I’m really proud of these 2 projects and I’m excited to show you what I created.

Zenith

The zenith project has been my favorite project throughout my time at freestyle. The main reason for this is that we could make our project anything that we wanted and had freedom over the entire project. From the deadlines to the rubric, everything was controlled by us. It was our chance to show off all of the skills we learned in freestyle and create the best project of our entire time at freestyle.

Once I heard all of this, I knew I wanted to make my project on Film Music. I chose 3 scenes that I would create my own version of the soundtrack for in a program called FL Studio. The three scenes I chose were from Get Out, Avengers: Endgame, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. For the Get Out and Avengers scenes I just wanted to create my own version of original score while still keeping the same overall emotion of the scene, however, for Pirates of the Caribbean, I wanted to mix it up a little bit and see how different I could make the meaning of the scene only by changing the music.

The process of making these 3 pieces came along with many challenges though as I have never created music like the ones in these scenes but it was a great learning experience. The Pirates of the Caribbean scene was specifically a challenge for me because for the other two scenes I could take inspiration from the original score but I couldn’t really do that for Pirates of the Caribbean because the original score was so different than the piece I was making. The full freedom we had in this project also lead to challenges in itself. Time management was very difficult since I didn’t really know how well and fast I could create these pieces and I had to set deadlines before I started. These challenges only made the project more satisfying to finish and I never would’ve learned so much.

Stacked Wood Art

For this project we were given 3 choices for different types we could make with all of them using various techniques in Adobe Illustrator. For my project, I decided to create stacked wood art of a dragonfly. I was inspired by the examples of multilayered wood art on the walls of the Digital Media room. I especially liked one particular piece of art of a butterfly and I felt that the multilayered wood technique worked very well with the insect shapes. The techniques that I used to create this piece taught me a lot about using Adobe Illustrator and how to use it to create digital artwork.

The main challenge I encountered during this project was planning out how I was going to make each different layer so that they would all line up on top of each other to get the design that I wanted. However, after drawing out each layer it made it much easier to think about how each layer would stack together and allowed me to get a rough idea of what I wanted it to look like before drawing it in illustrator.

If I could do this project again I would create more design around the dragonfly so I could add more detail into the project instead of just having the dragonfly. However, I’m still very proud of how this project turned out and it has taught me some very useful skills that I can use throughout my life. This project made me realize how much planning, skill, and time can go into one art piece which has only made me appreciate others’ art more.

Thank you for stopping by my page and I hope you enjoyed my projects. Feel free to check out the rest of my website if you want to see some more of my projects.
