Music Recording

The Musician

Roshan Mahesh is my musician, and he has been playing the guitar since middle school. Over the years he has been playing whenever he has free time and enjoys listening to Rock music. He owns both the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar. When he likes a song, he will look up tutorials online to learn the chords of a new song he wants to learn.

Here is the audio so you can listen to him play the electric guitar to the backtracking of “Interstate Lovesong”.

Artist Statement

For the music recording project, I chose to record my friend Roshan Mahesh who would play the electric guitar. He played “Interstate Lovesong” and when we did our first few takes, he was slowly warming up. After we did multiple takes of the song, we took the best parts from each recording and combined them into one recording as the final product.

The editing process took place in Pro Tools where I consolidated parts of different recordings into the final recording. I had to use the tools there to help me cut out parts that I didn’t want to like. One of the takes, I could hear myself talking because I hadn’t turned the microphone in the studio all the way off during the recording process. Using the music recording studio was a learning curve for me but I appreciate the experience and would consider it a novelty with the equipment and the process of recording.

Reflection

A project like this helped me to learn more about my friend Roshan, we both played guitar in middle school. I had stopped playing the guitar and hope to get back into it because of him. Hearing him play felt really relaxing to me because I can tell the songs he chooses are ones that he is passionate about. He enjoys the music, and he shows it by learning the chords so he can play along to the song. I hope to express my appreciate for music like him because it feels rewarding.
