The image above is the surreal composition related to the world building story that was crafted in Enligsh class called “Proxima”. The story captures the morality of humanity when it is being pressure by external forces such as the circumstances that the characters are put through have to make tough decisions. Decisions made for survival but in turn they could betray their values. There are two factions on the ship towards the newly established colony, commander’s Gujic’s faction and Pierce’s faction. Gujic prioritizes the people’s survival for people who contribute the most to the ship or have high status. While, Pierce’s faction believes that everyone is deserving at a chance at life no matter their technical value such as physical health and their capabilites.
My surreal composition is inspired by my worldbuilding project. The project is about humanity’s morals persevering through people that have been selected to go to the colony. The colony is at another location that is very far from earth. Using Photoshop, I decided to create my surreal piece using techniques like using color correction to make the images that I compiled together to blend better. I got to use techniques such as editing an image and creating non-destructive edits on an image that let me take parts of an image to use in my composition. Turning these images into smart objects, let me easily fade out certain parts of the image that I didn’t want as well. I also used color correction that let me take images that may be too bright and blend them with the overall lighting of the image.
In my English class, my group and I were drafting how we would create our worldbuilding project. One of the topics that was covered was how we were going to create characters that would carry out these morals within these select few people that have been chosen to migrate to the new colony. One of the characters I made is going to be a medic and is going to have to overcome obstacles that will challenge them to make immediate decisions. This would mean having to prioritize certain patients to treat the people with the most severe injuries but that could mean that there would not be enough time for everyone to be treated to save their life. This is reflected in my surreal composition because one of the focal points is a person tying a bandage around someone’s arm while an ominous hand is reaching out. The reaching out hand is there to give more urgency to the person being treated.
When I was going through the process of making the surreal composition, I valued how versatile Photoshop is. I enjoyed the process of getting to put images together that I liked into one composition that could convey many messages at the same time.

We had done a live pitch video presentation, from there we could watch back and make revision about what we would include into the final pitch video. Originally, our pitch script was way to length introducing the characters and that would mean there would be less time to talk about the actual plot line. In revisions, we were able to make a more concise overview of our characters, story line, themes, and our reflections with the whole creative writing process.
