Hello, my name is Kaitlyn Ecklund and welcome to my website! A little bit about me, I was born in Texas and then moved overseas with my family and lived in West Africa for three years. I moved to California in December 2009 and have been lucky enough to be able to call California my home ever since! I am a senior at Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy. I have been attending Freestyle for the past two years and am taking Design, Digital Media and English.
Freestyle has pushed me outside of my comfort zone with each project by encouraging me to create new things and find new ways of expressing myself through my pieces. While at Freestyle, I have grown as an artist and learned important life skills, such as time management and collaboration. My favorite project at Freestyle thus far has been the Documentary unit. This unit pushed me the most and it is the product which I am proudest of. For this unit we produced a book or magazine article about a topic which interested us or an individual. I decided to write a book about my grandfather and his story of living as a polio survivor. I wrote the text, took the photos, created graphics and designed the layout. All the hard work was worth it when I was able to show my grandfather what I had created and with him as my inspiration.
I’m sad that this will be my last year at Freestyle Academy but extremely grateful for everything I have learned here and all of the people I have met. I’m looking forward to sharing more of my projects with you throughout the year on this website so make sure to check up on it every once in a while! I’m excited to make the most of my last year here and create some amazing things.
