Head-Fi is a online community and forum for people that are interested in headphones to communicate. For people that are looking to purchase new pairs of headphones, Head-Fi should be one of the first places to check because they offer extensive experience and knowledge of a multitude of different headphones. You can get advice and feedback very quickly from the daily members of Head-Fi. It is also a good place to learn about different types of headphones when the majority of the world is only associated with the big name brands like Beats by Dre and Skullcandy.

 

Spotify is online music streaming website that allows you to listen to massive library of music for free from any computer. I use Spotify every day of every week for hours because of the high quality sound, fast and easy browsing, and extensive library. Spotify also helps you find new music that you like with radio feature that allows you create a radio station based on any artist, song, album, or genre. Another great thing about Spotify is that it has integrate a lot of social media features like sharing music, following your friends, and their playlists. Spotify also creates great playlists for almost every occasion that are available to all users.

 

One of my favorite sites to visit is Reddit because you can find just about anything and everything there. There are thousands of subforums to cater to your specific interests and help you find other like minded people. For example, when I began learning music production, one of the things that helped me the most was Reddit because I would go to the subforum for EDM production and ask questions and read advice from other producers that had the same problems that I was dealing with. This really expedited the learning process for me. Reddit provides you with information as well as the latest news.

 

Twitch.tv is a website that allows people to stream almost anything they want but it is mostly used by professional gamers to stream their own gameplay as well as by organizations streaming gaming tournaments. Twitch.tv has gained widespread popularity and is one of the most frequently viewed and visited websites on the internet. What I like the most about twitch.tv is that you can go on at almost any time of the day and find something interesting to watch and because it’s a streaming service you can watch for as long as you want from a few minutes to hours all for free. Another thing that is really awesome about is that you can communicate with the streamer in real time which makes the viewing process really interactive.

 

As you can probably tell, I am an Electronic Dance Music fanatic which means there is no better website for me to visit than Beatport itself. Beatport is an online music store that delivers the best tracks in all genres of Electronic Dance Music. Along with providing you access to the best dance tracks it also hosts a multitude of remix competitions and distributes a ton of great sample packs for producers. What I like the most about beatport is the wide variety of music that they offer and extremely high quality of their music.

 

Another website that I love to go to is Last.FM because I find it really interesting to see what kinds of music my friends listen to. Last.FM is a music website that builds a detailed profile for you based on your musical tastes and allows you to connect with other people with a similar compatability. Last.FM records the total amount of tracks you have listened to and your most listened to songs and artists. It also offers many social networking features to allow you to connect with the friends you make through the website. I personally use this website everyday.

 

A State of Trance is a radio show hosted by the world renowned DJ and producer Armin van Buuren. A State of Trance has been around since June of 2001 and is a 2 hour radio show that runs every Thursday. As you can probably infer from the title, Armin van Buuren primarily plays Trance music including a lot of unreleased tracks and sometimes including classic trance tracks. A State of Trance is listened to by most Trance fans but relatively unknown to those that don’t listen to Trance. I really like the website and support it because I listen to the show every Thursday.

 

The first webgem I chose was Soundcloud. Soundcloud is an online audio distribution platform that enables users to upload and share their own creative sounds. Personally, this is one of my most visited websites. In my free time I can spend hours and hours just exploring and finding new sounds and connecting with other people who have similar musical interests as me. The really cool thing about it is that not only does it have sounds created by professional artists, but it has sounds created by amateur artists exposing you to all kinds of creative work and things you would never have found without the service of Soundcloud.

 

EDM.com is a website that keeps you up to date on all things EDM. Being an electronic dance music fanatic myself, this is a website that I visit daily and sometimes multiple times a day. Some of things that are included on the website are the latest releases from electronic dance music producers big and small, articles with news on upcoming albums and events, and news about what your favorite artists are doing outside of music. Why is this website special though? A lot of the information on this website can be found elsewhere but what makes EDM.com better than the others is how quickly and accuately they get their information to you.
