Film
The conceptual unit in film was meant to teach us the basics of recording and putting a film together. So far film has been a challenging but helpful class. In a course where we get strict deadlines and unfiltered criticism, there’s a lot of room to grow as film makers at different levels. For me, what made the experimental film unit very challenging is that it made me think like an abstract artist for the first time. My content in the past has always been based on entertainment and my attempt at emulating styles I admire in the film and media world. But during experimental, I learned a way of thinking about emotion and connection to the audience that I had never worked with before.
The Experimental Film
Everyone was given a different statement with a feeling and a subject. I was given the feeling of confusion and the action of sharing food. The project was interesting because we were encouraged to make it as wacky as possible. So I started my idea of someone creating food and with the help of my classmates it, it evolved into this merging of hundreds of clips into one to represent the mixing of food.

This is a frame from the final image that I present in my experimental film. Made to represent the confusing flavor of mixing too many different foods together. This was made by combining dozens of shots into one frame and liquifying them together.

The giant tower of clips at the end is me layering every single clip from the entire film all on top of eachother, to create one giant amalgamation of clips, hence the name of my film. I had to use a lot of compound timelines in order to malleableize each individual frame. This did take a toll Mr. Taylors comupters a bit but I think it ended up looking cool in the end.
Conceptual Exercises
During the conceptual exercises we learned two essential techniques in film. The green screen and the multiplicity effect. We used these techniques in the green room and around campus just to see what we could do with the techniques. But later, these two techniques will prove very useful as being some of the most widely applicable film manipulating methods which we can use in our experimental films and narrative films.
