Why Humor?

According to Scott Galloway, Humor is one of the most important skills to practice in order to demonstrate intelligence and attract women. Freestyle contributed to my ability attract women by analyzing various literary and abstract humor pieces, particularly Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse 5, in order to understand humorous rhetorical devices. That way we can apply those same techniques to our very own humor piece to present to the whole class so that all of us can attract women together.

I see this project as a way to change our view of artistic analysis and application. It’s showed me that analyzing artist choices doesn’t have to feel dull and academic. Because unlike normal school, where we’d sit at desks in an english class while listening to our teacher talk about a classic book from over 50 years ago, we instead got to sit in an english class while listening to our teacher talk about a classic book from over 50 years ago that’s also funny. Honestly it wasn’t really that different from any other english unit. But this taught me something really important. That despite different story-telling forms having different outcomes; music, film, animation, writing. The process to develop and understand them are not so different. Which is kind of magical to me because it shows that despite all of us speaking different languages, and different styles, and different mediums, we’re all telling just telling stories like one another.

Humor Proposal

For my humor analysis I decided to write about a Youtube humorist named Ryan Higa. I used to watch him when I was younger, but as I get older I’ve grown to appreciate the intelligence of his humor and how it is applicable to real life. By analyzing this video which I’ve seen multiple times many many years ago, I found that it has many recurring criticism towards modern conspiracy culture that says a lot about Ryan’s worldview. This analysis allowed me to use my worldview to create a humorous video that shows people the problems that are important to me.

For my chosen project, I decided to make a sketch about the trump administration. I wanted to express my distaste for the decisions made by this administration as well as my thoughts on the way we look at historical events as students. I was influenced by Ryan Higa in the way that I wrote the dialogue to deliver emotional statements. And I was inspired by other youtube sketch writers like Caleb City who use themself to portray different characters.
