Balance in Holiday Traditions

New Years in New York

I decided to take a picture of the streets in New York to express the tradition we have as a family to watch the live New York New Years on TV since I was little. Whether it was just little clips or hours of them playing in the back, I think of them as a tradition in my family where we sit and talk waiting for the countdown. To show balance, I took this photo of the tall buildings from the ground, tilting the camera up towards the sky. I wanted to show depth of field so instead of choosing one skyscraper, I decided to layer the two buildings, one taller than the other, in front of one another. In the corner, I decided to add in the leaves of the tree to create even more depth of field where it felt as through they were close to us while the skyscraper felt far away. I decided to make this photo black and white to illustrate my past memories as a child watching the New York Countdowns with my family.

This photo was taken with ISO of 400, Aperture of 11, and Shutter Speed of 1/50.
