Narrative Visual Perspective in Digital Media

Funny Images and Surreal Composition Project

In Digital Media we created two funny image compositions using photoshop to practice our skills for our Surreal Composition Project. We used 2-3 images and put them together where it “fit”. For my first image, I took a photo of my classmate Natalie and put an elf costume on top of her. For my second image, I took my friend Chloe’s face onto the statue of liberty and placed the Glee Cast onto the background.

The Surreal Composition Project was designed as an introduction to the world-building unit. We created an image that is “otherworldly” but creatively combines pictures using blend modes and textures. My world-building project has aspects of modernism in a period photo.

Surreal Composition titled, “The effects of consumerism”

Artist Statement:
I was interested in taking a family picture from the early 20th century and combining it with modern technology- making a historic futuristic image. I wanted to illustrate what could be the effect of consumerism. I learned that I really enjoy thinking about the effects of our daily media/technology uses. I struggled to find pictures that could work with each other. If I were to change it, I would add more of the drone and static tv into the background. I’m most proud about the x-ray filter effect on some parts of the family while others don’t have it at all. I will use the ideas I learned on this project and apply them to my filmmaking work. This project changed the way I appreciate and value others’ art because everything in the art is done on purpose.

Multi-Layered Art Project

The multi-layered art project was based on our world-building project. We created a story based on a made-up world and made Illustrator art to be printed into a 3D display. We could make a ring art, a light box, or a stacked wood art. I decided to make a stacked wood art. We started with rough sketches to upload into Illustrator.

Digital Layered Art

Artist Statement:
My inspiration for my project was to illustrate a subject time traveling as my World Building Concept and Vision focused on it. I wanted to showcase a wave of movement through my character’s journey with time travel. Even though it was confusing to understand how it would look physically at first, I really enjoyed the freedom I had with producing a 2D multi-layered concept into a 3D physical production. The 3D digital production later with AfterEffects was also very interesting as I’ve never done anything like it before and I was able to make something look so professional in a short amount of time. I valued taking the time to understand how every aspect worked in the 3D space in After Effects because it all made an effect on how it looked at the end. Knowing Illustrator and After Effects in general help me a lot to produce media of all types that I desire to do in the future which makes me feel more confident.
