About this Podcast

Personal stories from family can be more impactful than the paragraphs you read in history textbooks. To reflect the struggle Romania’s citizens faced in the 1970s, my mother shares the perseverance and creativity she and her father took to create joy for her 6th birthday.

Podcaster Bio

I’m Letitia Popescu, a senior attending Freestyle Academy. I’m learning how to become a professional animator and to find inspiration for stories, I talk with my mom to hear about her experiences. Her story of the chocolate cake inspired me – it blossomed her passion of baking and taught me the value of memories like these.

Why are we doing a Podcast Project?

The goal of our English class’ Podcast project was to introduce us to a new form of communication. This audio medium is different from my usual work, animation, and it truly opened my eyes to the possibilities of what else I can do. What was especially important to me about podcasts was the opportunity to connect with someone. It opens up the doorway to ask people questions. Besides getting the full details of my interviewee’s experience, the podcast also acts like a time capsule. Because of how accessible the podcast is, you can record genuine and organic conversation. It’s an authentic form of communicating with audiences and guests.Inspirations of mine when I was researching included the sci-fi mystery, Limetown, and He’s Just 23 Chromosomes.

The Process

ProTools editing of the podcast.
Designing the Podcast Icon on Clip Studio Paint.
Editing and preparing the script for the PodCast.

Reflection

A challenge I’ve found is narrowing down my subject idea and editing the final podcast. Originally, I was going to ask my mom about her father. As I continued preparing for the interview, I realized that she’d feel more comfortable talking about the chocolate cake story. The story was also a gem in teaching people more about history.
