Narrative Visual Perspective in Digital Media

To start our Narrative unit in Digital Media, we were tasked to make Funny Image Compositions using the skills that Mr. Flo had taught us on DM-Zoom. We learned how to blend two photos together using different coloring, texturing, etc. to make it looks like a singular product. Here are my two compositions:

Here are the behind the scenes:

As you can see, my main inspiration for my funny photo compositions were my friends. Scrolling through my camera roll gave me all the ideas I could ever need to produce these compositions. I think it is cool to be able to have this skill since there is so much funny stuff floating around on the internet, and to be able to be creators of that stuff is pretty awesome.

One of the main focuses this year in Digital Media was learning how to use the application Adobe After Effects. This is something we didn’t really touch junior year, but is incredibly useful for many things. To get practice with this application and motion graphics, we were assigned to make a personalized motion graphics example that demonstrates many different features of the app. For mine, I made a music visualizer for my friend Kai who I did my music recording project with.

This was super useful for getting familiar with the After Effects interface and understanding my way around the app. Although I do forget some of the stuff we used in this project, I am now confident that I can go back and learn since I know how After Effects works. It was cool to see how excited Kai was when I sent him this so I am glad I could take this practice and use it to make someone else happy.

The main project of our Narrative unit in Digital Media was our Multi-Layered Art Project. We had three options to choose from for this project: stacked wood art, light-box art, or 3D ring art. I chose to do the stacked wood art. This entailed using Adobe Illustrator to draw multiple layers that would eventually be printed out on wood and glued together to form a physical piece of art. Our projects were meant to be loosely related to our Worldbuilding project in English class so I chose to do an aircraft carrier since ours was war related.

This boat design is what I based my boat off of.

The inspiration for my project was the war element in my World Building project in English class. My partners, Brad and Elai, made a tank and plane, so my aircraft carrier fit with the theme. The inspiration for our World Building concept and vision, at least for me, was Game of Thrones. I had just finished watching the show and it is by far my favorite show I have ever seen. I really enjoyed being able to visualize and flesh out my design in Adobe Illustrator, knowing that in the end I would have a final product. I find it really satisfying to take something that you made in a 2D space on the computer and eventually turn it into something 3D and tangible. We then edited a video in Adobe After Effects to show how each layer came together to form a 3D object. The ability to be able to create a visual representation like that was fascinating to me and hard to understand conceptually. It is cool to know the possibilities of what you can create through the Adobe apps, especially After Effects, and I look forward to exploring more of that in the future.
