Blurry cool photo of car temperature dial
50mm 1/200 f4.5 ISO160

My photo that I took for this assignment was for the “Angles” composition challenge. I chose to take an extreme close-up shot of the side of my car’s temperature dial. Tilting the camera low rather than shooting straight on and using a shallow depth of field made the picture more dramatic and added detail. Having the edges out of focus also draws your eye to the center dial. I felt as if this made my everyday object feel more filmic and added more interest. What I enjoyed most about this assignment was realizing how angles can change a photograph’s mood. When you see an object such as a car dashboard, you usually think nothing of it. But by changing the angle, it made it seem somewhat futuristic. I realized that photography will not always be about finding interesting things to photograph. It is sometimes about finding new and different ways to look at things.
