For this week’s photo, we were told to tell the story of a new beginning. This building was very old and run-down, but from that lots of plants were able to grow. Through this I wanted to show that new beginnings aren’t always bright and shiny. Sometimes they’re messy and awkward, like ferns squeezing through cracks in a wall, but that can still be beautiful.
When taking this photo, I found it a bit awkward to compose. I think the light on the right side draws a lot of attention, but at the same time it’s so far off to the right that it doesn’t feel like a focal point. I tried to position the pole in the center of the image to balance out the lighter side and the darker side. If I could take it again, I would like to experiment with composing it differently. Still, I do like this photo and had a lot of fun taking it!
