shadow

photo of several figures sitting behind a clear plastic curtain at a restaurant.

For this week’s photo, we were told to tell a compelling story using shadow. I was not quite sure how to do this – partly because I’m used to working with light. Light draws attention, and I was unsure how to make the shadows draw attention instead. I found this plastic curtain at a restaurant and thought it was perfect for this! It makes the figures behind it look a little blurry and dark, like shadows. It reminds me of Spirited Away when Chihiro is lost in the beginning, and there are all of these restaurants with shadows.

As for the story this tells, I like to imagine the two girls facing away from each other have some sort of connection – used to be friends, or will become friends in the future? They seem so preoccupied with the people at their table, but they’re close to each other too. It’s definitely up to interpretation, and that’s what I love about telling stories through photos! :]

This week our photo is meant to tell a story about one of the seven deadly sins, and I chose envy. I took this photo on the Steven’s Creek Trail, and I’m pretty sure it’s a thistle, which reminded me of envy because of how pretty yet prickly it is….

modern convenience

April 14, 2024May 31, 2024

This week’s prompt was to create an image that looks like an advertisement for your favorite modern convenience! I took this photo on a google meets with my friends (Aditi and Sofia) while working on a project together, and I thought it fit this prompt pretty well. Being able to…
