Introduction

My name is Sara Twiggs. Initially joined Freestyle for my love of story telling and art. I am technically a second year Film student, though my first year was spent almost entirely online. This unique situation forced me to be even more independent and self-motivated than Freestyle usually demands. My time at Freestyle has been unconventional, but it is through hardship that one experiences the most growth. These past two years have forced me to grow as an artist, a creative, and as a person. For my showcase, I would like to focus on one of my favorite aspects of filmmaking: screenwriting.

Senior Narrative

By far our biggest project of the year, and at Freestyle in general, was our senior narrative. The goal of this project was to write, film, and edit a ten minute film. I hit the ground running from the very start with a pitch about a magical crime-fighting cowboy. From there, I co-wrote my first screenplay with my partner, Bright Liu. I had done a lot of writing in my own time before, including a play of about the same length, but this was my first time writing something that was meant to be filmed.

Zenith Project

The Zenith project is supposed to be the culmination of all your skills at Freestyle. You fully design a project of your own choosing to work on over the course of six weeks. I enjoyed the screenwriting portion of my narrative so much that I opted to write a full length screenplay.

It ended up being a mockumentary about a team of amateur ghost hunters and the ghost that steals their camera when it’s left unattended. It becomes a dichotomy of the hunters trying to find evidence of the ghost and the ghost trying to mess with them in every possible way.

In the end, my screenplay fell slightly short of full length at 60 pages, but it is still something I am incredibly proud of.
