Lyrical Essay
My lyrical essay is about The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It’s one of my favorite books, so I wanted to do an ekphrastic style piece about the book. My inspirations for the essay was The Book of Delights by Ross Gay. In the essay, I was creative with formatting by adding little notes in the footnotes about parts of the book, along with the painting which is the central plotpoint of the novel. In addition, I formatted the overall piece as Donna Tartt does throughout her novel by having little parts that collectively tell the story using labels i., ii., iii., etc.
Lyrical Essay Production
This is my lyrical essay production from Digital Media where I designed a cover for my essay if it were to be printed. Since the author is a big focus of my essay, I used her silhouette as a focal point. I made the background a cream color to match that of the original book cover and painting. The font is very simple and classy to mimic the themes of the novel.
