Explorations is an individual project that focuses on research and mastering a subject relating to film. I chose to explore lighting and colors, having my interest peaked in subjects relating to aesthetic. My main focuses were on three point lighting, color temperature, and color theory.

Project Info

Due to quarantine, this individual project became a lot more individual with me being the sole crew member all throughout the process. I created 3 scenes demonstrating my mastery of the subject. The first is a horror scene, the second a pleasant one, and the third more of a thriller. To begin, I storyboarded all 3 scenes with notes for each shot about lighting, which proved to be extremely helpful during production, but most of all during post production in editing. Each scene took about a day to film, minus the pickup shots. During production, my equipment consisted of lamps from around my house, “gels” (plastic sheets colored on with sharpie), and light bounces/reflectors. Post production was quite easy just having to put together the pieces according to the storyboards, but I did go on an ambitious endeavor to compose all the music used by myself along with creating all the sound effects.
