01 | Self-Portrait

Stella is playing her guitar outside in the road. Her motion is heavily blurred from the very long exposure length of the camera.
A song to rock the world.

“Create a self-portrait without showing your face.”
That was our challenge. How can we portray ourselves without using our most recognizable features? So, on a cloudless evening, I threw on my racing jacket, laced my Converse, and lugged my Stratocaster outside for an evening jam session.

To be completely honest, it’s really hard for me to describe who I am in one go, because I’m quite a mess. That’s exactly what I wanted to convey in this photo. My hair is messy, my shoes are dirty, my jacket is loose and folds over itself. I utilized a long exposure length to give my motion blurriness, further adding to the grit and grime of my self-portrait.

But most importantly, I love music. Music speaks in ways we can not. It conveys emotions we’ve never felt before. I’ve been drawn to music all my life, despite only ever being an amateur guitar player. My life without music would be void and empty. My soul rings with melodies yet to be heard. So I play a song to rock the world, in all my messy glory.
